Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 21, 2026
Detlev Voss (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Timers & Alarms app for iPhone and iPad (the “App”), which appears as TimerAlarm on your Home Screen, in the system settings and to Siri. This policy informs you about our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use the App.
The App keeps your timers, alarms and stopwatch on your device. It needs no account, and we run no server that receives data from it. Where data leaves your device, it is described below: Apple services that the system provides, pages from our website that you open in Help, and backup files that you save yourself.
1. Data Stored by the App
1.1 Timers, Alarms and Settings
The App stores what you create and choose on your device, using Apple’s UserDefaults mechanism in a container that only the App and its own widgets can read:
- Your timers and alarms, with their names, durations, phases, colors and sounds.
- The stopwatch, with its laps.
- Your settings, such as the defaults for new timers and alarms, the sort order, the appearance and the language.
- Copies of your timers and alarms for the widgets, and the time zone and scheduling state that keep alarms reliable.
- A count of finished timers and delivered alarms, and which tips you have given (see 4).
This data leaves your device only through Apple’s standard backups (iCloud Backup, or a backup on your computer), which are under your control.
1.2 Backup File
Settings → Backup exports your timers, alarms and settings to a JSON file and imports one back. The file also records the app version and the time of the export; quick timers are not included. Where you save the file — on your device, in iCloud Drive or with another provider — is up to you, and we never receive it. Importing a file replaces all current data.
1.3 No Account, No Server
The App does not require any registration or sign-in. We operate no server, database or logging infrastructure that receives data from the App.
2. Alarms, Live Activities and Apple Watch
2.1 Alarm Permission
The App uses Apple’s AlarmKit framework so that timers and alarms sound reliably, even in Silent or Focus mode. The first time, the system asks for your permission; without it, timers and alarms cannot start. Alarms are scheduled on your device by the system, and nothing passes through a server. You can change the permission at any time in the system settings for TimerAlarm. The App asks for no other permission.
2.2 What Appears Outside the App
The names you give timers and alarms are shown outside the App: in the alarm when it sounds, in Live Activities on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and in widgets on the Home Screen. On a paired Apple Watch, the system shows the Live Activities in the Smart Stack. Anyone who can see your screen can read these names, also while the device is locked. You can turn off Live Activities for the App in the system settings.
3. Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight
The App offers its actions — start, stop and check a timer, start a quick timer, move to the next round, turn an alarm on or off — to Siri, the Shortcuts app and Spotlight. On iOS and iPadOS 27 and later, it also describes its timers, alarms and stopwatch to Siri in Apple’s common format for clock apps.
- When you speak a request, Siri processes it under Apple’s privacy policy. The App receives only the resulting request — for example, the name of the timer to start — and carries it out on your device.
- So that Spotlight can find your saved timers, the App adds each one’s name, length and phase names to the search index on your device. When you start a timer in the App, it tells the system, so that Siri and Spotlight can suggest it to you later. Both stay on your device under the system’s control, and the App removes a timer’s entries when you delete the timer.
- You can turn off Siri and suggestions for the App in the system settings.
4. Tips and the Rating Prompt
The App is free. In Settings you can leave an optional tip in one of three sizes; a tip unlocks nothing. Tips are processed by Apple through StoreKit, and payment is handled by Apple under its terms and privacy policy. We see tips only in Apple’s sales reports, which do not tell us who you are; we do not receive your name, email address, billing address or payment method. The App remembers on your device which tips you have given.
After 50, 250 and 1,000 finished timers and delivered alarms, the App shows a short note about tips, unless you have already given one; after 100, it may show Apple’s rating prompt. The count stays on your device, and a rating you give goes to Apple.
5. Web Pages in Help
Help → Contact and Help → Privacy Policy show pages from our website, apps.advoss.de, inside the App. Loading them is like visiting the website in a browser: our hosting provider records technical data such as your IP address in its server log files, as described in the website’s Privacy Policy. These pages use no cookies or tracking. Nothing else in the App connects to our website.
6. If You Write to Us
The contact page offers our email address, support@advoss.de. If you write to us, we receive your message along with what your mail account discloses (usually your email address and name), and we keep it only as long as answering you requires.
7. Data We Do Not Collect
- Through the App, we do not collect personal information such as your name, email address or account credentials.
- We do not receive your timers, alarms, stopwatch times or settings.
- We do not ask for your location, your contacts or any permission other than alarms.
- We do not operate any server that receives data from the App.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting or advertising frameworks.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not share any data with third parties beyond the Apple platform services described in this policy.
- We do not use cookies or similar tracking technologies.
8. Third-Party Services
The App relies solely on Apple platform services: AlarmKit for alarms; ActivityKit and WidgetKit for Live Activities, widgets and the Stopwatch control; App Intents and Core Spotlight for Siri, Shortcuts and Spotlight; StoreKit for tips and the rating prompt; TipKit for hints in the App; and WebKit for the pages in Help. Each is provided by Apple and governed by Apple’s privacy policy. If you have allowed your device to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass crash reports and usage statistics for the App to us in a form that does not identify you. The App is distributed exclusively through the App Store.
9. Data Storage and Security
The App’s data is stored by the system in the App’s private container on your device, shared only with the App’s own widgets, and protected by Apple’s device encryption. Diagnostic messages that the App writes to the system log stay on your device, with timer names hidden. We never receive or access this data.
10. Children’s Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because it transmits no personal data to us, it is suitable for users of all ages. Tips are in-app purchases; parents and guardians can restrict them with Screen Time.
11. Your Rights Under GDPR
All App data stays on your device and, if you export it, in a file you keep yourself. We have no access to it. So the following applies:
- Right of access: your timers, alarms, stopwatch and settings are visible in the App at any time. The count of finished timers and the record of tips given serve only the notes described in 4.
- Right to erasure: deleting the App from your device removes its data from that device. Backup files you exported stay where you saved them until you delete them, and tips stay in your Apple Account’s purchase history. If you have written to us, you can ask us at any time to delete that correspondence.
- Right to data portability: Settings → Backup exports your timers, alarms and settings as a JSON file.
- Right to object: you can revoke the alarm permission, turn off Live Activities, and turn off Siri and suggestions for the App at any time in the system settings.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be published here with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review it periodically.
