3. General Product Safety (GPSR)
In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 of the European Parliament and of the Council (General Product Safety Regulation), the following information is provided:
3.1 Product Safety
PhotoView is a software-only product that does not control physical machinery, medical devices, or safety-critical systems. The app is a viewer for the photos and videos that already exist in your Photo Library — and, on the Mac, for files you open yourself. It changes your library only for actions you trigger yourself, and it is designed to be safe for consumers of all ages.
3.2 Intended Use
The app is intended for personal, non-commercial use as a viewer for the photos and videos in your Photo Library — on the Mac also for files and folders you open yourself — including the display of the associated technical metadata (EXIF, IPTC, TIFF, XMP and GPS), full-screen slideshows, and light organisation of your own albums. It is not intended as a substitute for Apple's Photos app for importing, editing or organising media, and it is not intended for use in safety-critical, medical, forensic, or evidential contexts.
3.3 Warnings & Limitations
- The metadata displayed by the app is read from the files and Apple's PhotoKit framework as-is. Values such as GPS coordinates, timestamps, camera identifiers or keywords reflect what the original capture device, editing software or iCloud stored and may be incomplete or inaccurate. The app does not verify or correct this information.
- Shared iCloud albums strip a number of metadata fields (including GPS, keywords, titles and depth data) for privacy and compatibility reasons. Missing values for assets viewed from a shared album are a limitation of iCloud, not a defect of the app. For the same reason, the operating system does not let the app add items to a shared album.
- The map feature uses Apple Maps to display the GPS location encoded in the photo; it is provided for informational purposes only and must not be used for navigation or other safety-critical decisions.
- On iPhone and iPad, AirPlay mirrors the currently visible photo or video — or a running slideshow — to an external display. The app does not alter or store the transmitted content; availability and quality of the AirPlay connection depend on your network and the receiving device. The Mac app plays its slideshow in a window of its own and does not drive an AirPlay receiver.
- Deleting is a real deletion. Items deleted from the Photo Library go to the "Recently Deleted" album of the Photos app and are removed permanently after the period Apple sets; on the Mac, deleting a file you opened yourself moves that file to the Trash. Keep an adequate backup of your library and of your files.
- Slideshows change the picture at the interval you set and can use animated transitions. If you are sensitive to flashing or fast-changing images, choose a longer duration and a calm transition, or turn the effect off.
- As with any screen-based activity, users are encouraged to take regular breaks and follow healthy screen-time habits.
3.4 Incident Reporting
If you experience any safety concerns or incidents related to the use of this product, please contact the manufacturer immediately at support@advoss.de. You may also report product safety concerns to your national market surveillance authority.
4. Applicable EU Regulations
As a digital product distributed within the European Economic Area, PhotoView complies with the following regulations where applicable:
- Regulation (EU) 2023/988 – General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 – General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – see our Privacy Policy
- Directive 2011/83/EU – Consumer Rights Directive, as amended by Directive (EU) 2019/2161 (Omnibus Directive)
- Directive (EU) 2019/770 – Digital Content and Digital Services Directive
5. Consumer Rights for Digital Content
In accordance with Directive (EU) 2019/770 and the Consumer Rights Directive:
- Conformity: The app is provided in conformity with the description on the App Store product page. Updates are provided to maintain conformity and security.
- Functionality: The app lets you browse the full Photo Library, smart albums, your own albums and shared albums; view photos, Live Photos and videos full screen with pinch-to-zoom; show or hide a metadata overlay covering EXIF, IPTC, TIFF, XMP and GPS values, or show it in a separate window on the Mac; open a photo's GPS location on a map; mark items as favorites; select multiple items to delete them, add / remove them from your own albums, or play them as a full-screen slideshow; create albums and folders; share items through the system share sheet; mirror the current item or a running slideshow to a TV via AirPlay from iPhone and iPad; open files and folders from disk on the Mac and drag items in and out of the Finder; and choose a light, dark or system appearance, as described on the product page.
- Paid features: The app is free to download. A single one-time "PhotoView Pro" purchase unlocks the professional metadata groups (Description, Location, IPTC, DNG, XMP, IPTC Extension, Canon, Nikon and, on the Mac, Finder attributes) and the map link. It is not a subscription and does not renew. Every Pro feature can be tried free for 7 days, once per Apple ID, without a payment method. An optional tip jar unlocks no further functionality. See the Terms of Use.
- Compatibility: The app requires iOS / iPadOS 26.0 or later, or macOS 26.0 or later, and a device with a Photo Library. Detailed system requirements are listed on the App Store product page.
- Updates: The manufacturer provides updates to ensure continued functionality and security. Updates are delivered through the Apple App Store and the Mac App Store.
